God Bless our Country

　　會見馬總統的前一天，第一次聽到這首《天佑美國》（God Bless the USA）。可能因為最近接觸了一點美國歷史，聽到這首歌的時候，幾乎鼻酸。

　　歌詞是這麼唱的：

　　If tomorrow all the things were gone 　　
　　I'd worked for all my life,
　　And I had to start again
　　with just my children and my wife,
　　I'd thank my lucky stars
　　to be living here today,
　　'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
　　and they can't take that away.

　　And I'm proud to be an American
　　where at least I know I'm free,
　　And I won't forget the men who died
　　who gave that right to me,
　　And I gladly stand up next to you
　　and defend her still today,
　　'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
　　God Bless the U.S.A.

　　From the lakes of Minnesota
　　to the hills of Tennessee,
　　Across the plains of Texas
　　from sea to shining sea.
　　From Detroit down to Houston
　　and New York to L.A.,
　　well There's pride in every American heart
　　and it's time we stand and say:

　　that I'm proud to be an American
　　where at least I know I'm free,
　　And I won't forget the men who died
　　who gave that right to me,
　　And I gladly stand up next to you
　　and defend her still today,
　　'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land

　　馬總統在他五分鐘致詞的開頭說道：「美國是世界上最偉大的國家，但這不是我們命中註定（preordained），而是我們的父母、祖父母為了爭取自由與機會，所努力得來的。我們的祖先來到這塊土地，開始他們的新生活，因為知道在美國只要努力，沒有任何事物能夠阻擋他們。」接著提到最近的經濟蕭條，但只要美國人團結起來，沒有什麼不能辦到的。

　　美國夢有時確實很虛幻，美國糟糕的地方多的是，不曉得這群人到底在自大什麼。但是靜下心來想，民主、自由、努力工作──這些字眼固然在實踐時沒有說起來那麼單純，如果一群人的心底能夠單純地認同這些共同價值，確實是很美好的呀。

　　回到《天佑美國》這首歌，我豈不更願意為台灣而唱？美國有很多問題，但我相信多數美國人真的能夠發自內心唱這首歌。

　　台灣人呢？

　　如果到了明天，我畢生的努力突然化為泡影，
　　我必須帶著家人，一切重頭開始，
　　我仍會感謝那青天白日，我今天能活著，
　　因為青天白日滿地紅的國旗仍然象徵自由，
　　沒有人能夠奪去。

　　從日月潭到阿里山，
　　從嘉南平原到台灣海峽，
　　從宜蘭到台東，
　　從台北到高雄，
　　每個台灣人心中都有一份驕傲，
　　我們要站出來說：

　　我以身為台灣人為榮，
　　至少我知道，我在這裡是自由的，
　　我也不會忘記葬身二二八、白色恐怖、民主運動中的先烈，
　　是他們給了我民主自由。
　　我很高興今天站在你旁邊，
　　並捍衛台灣直到如今，
　　因為，無疑的，我愛這片土地，
　　天佑台灣。

　　說的誇張點，可能有四分之一的台灣人唱不出第一段，四分之一的台灣人唱不出最後一段…雖然僅僅是這麼簡單一首歌…

　　所謂的國家認同，在許多時候仍然顯得虛幻，卻又好像能像這首歌那麼簡單。

　　兩千年前，以色列人等待著彌賽亞拯救他們脫離羅馬人的統治，彌賽亞卻說祂的國不是專給以色列人，是給世人；不是世上的政治權力，而是真理與生命帶來的平安、盼望與喜樂。

　　很久沒有唱台語歌了。
